1.1 Purpose of the Course
The purpose of the Bachelor’s Programme in Landscape Planning is to provide students with
key knowledge and skills that will enable them to plan, design and execute landscape
architectural projects with professional expertise. The programme focuses on the acquisition of
design, technical and methodological competencies and tools and their practice-oriented use in
planning projects and an integrated practice-oriented module.
A basic understanding of landscape and urban planning issues will be conveyed along with
qualified presentation skills. Aspects of environmental ethics, public participation and
information and design and planning in a European context are integral components of the
course.
1.2 Structure of the Course
The Bachelor’s Programme in Landscape Architecture comprises seven academic semesters.
The first two semesters form the introductory phase, and semesters three to seven the core
phase. The fifth semester is a field placement semester (see Section 2.1).
The course contents are grouped in subject areas. These consist of modules generally
comprising several teaching events. All modules are compulsory.
Each student must earn 210 credits. On average, a credit corresponds to 30 hours of student
effort.
1.3 Examinations
The assessment grades and assignable credits that have to be gained for successful
completion of the introductory phase are shown at Section 2.2. The aggregate grade of the
introductory phase consists of the arithmetic mean of the module grades weighted according to
the grade weighting factors. As soon as all the modules in the introductory phase have been
successfully completed, a transcript attesting to completion of the introductory phase is issued.

completion of the core phase are shown at Section 2.3. The aggregate grade of the core phase
consists of the arithmetic mean of the module grades achieved in the core phase (including the
grades gained on the bachelor’s thesis and in the cross-subject final examinations) and
weighted according to the stated grade weighting factors. As soon as all the modules in the core
phase and the field placement semester have been successfully completed, a transcript
attesting to completion of the introductory phase will be issued.
Insofar that the type, length and weighting of examinations is not specified in detail at Sections
2.2 and 2.3, the respective decisions and announcements shall be made by the Examination
Committee before the start of the semester concerned.
Module examinations are to be taken in the semesters in which the respective modules are
given, whereby the students will be automatically registered for the examinations. Examinations
not taken in the respective semester shall be sat in the examination period of the following
semester.
The automatic registration rule does not apply to the repetition of project work, assignments and
seminar papers. This lies at the responsibility of the students, who must register such repetition
