The AITEC Idea
Amma’s vision for the educational field encompassed an engineering college. Knowledge has to be mellowed with a kind heart, a heart which shall impart knowledge for the welfare of the society. The Monks of our Ashram include many young engineers. The “Divine Love” has transformed these engineers so that they may go into the world and serve humanity. The principle of reverse osmosis is taking place and young engineers who have accepted monkhood have now established an engineering institution under Amma’s guidance. Thus,

was conceived-a step ahead for our Ashram in the field of selfless, educational service. AITEC is distinct. This institution is envisaged to provide a grooming ground for many a thousand young, brilliant, trained engineers - their intellect and heart equally developed - committed to the ideal of selfless service to the society, the nation and the world.
AITEC was established in 1994 with just 3 branches namely Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, and Electronics & Communication Engineering. Today, it is one of the premier engineering colleges in Tamilnadu, offering seven branches of study. The student & faculty strength has increased ten fold in this short span of five years.

Situated on the lush green valley Western ghats, on three sides and having its Southern side linked to the Coimbatore-Palakkad highway, the campus of the Amrita Institute of Technology and Science (AITEC) is serene, beautiful and yet vibrant. Facilities Available In The Institution
Library & Information centre
- The Library of the Amrita Institute of Technology and Science stores up all latest information in engineering science, highlighting Information Technology & Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, Production and Polymer Engineering. It stays open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for information retrieval and service on all days except on Sundays and National holidays when the timing is 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Browsing database and documents, On-line access of EBSCO and Pro-Quest, Document delivery, Reprographic and current awareness are the major services offered by the Library. Besides microform documents in Video Cassettes, CDs and Diskettes, the library at present has a book stock of 13,000 volumes. Further, 220 current journals are regularly coming in the library - among them 112 belong to international societies, learned bodies and professional associations like ASME, ASHRAE, IEEE, AWS, AIPMA, IEI and IIW. The Book Bank scheme in the Library is functioning very well. AITEC Library covers an area of 8000 Sq.ft.

The marketing courses are taught through the use of an innovative learning tool. This tool requires the students to relate all concepts, tools and techniques of marketing to a chosen Industry.

The students understand in this process the merits and limitations of applying a conceptual framework. Hence, they develop a modified framework that can suit the requirements of the industry.

This approach was successfully practiced by a team of students who did a study on the TATA Indica project and made a presentation of their findings to the TELCO top brass.

On May 17th 1998, the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMS), a super-speciality hospital, was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Inspired by Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi, AIMS is dedicated to the service of humanity. A committed staff of outstanding professionals provides the finest medical treatment available in the country. Patient care is enhanced by a fully computerized and networked hospital information system, a fully digitized Radiology Department, and a comprehensive and exceptionally well-equipped Clinical Laboratory. In its first three years of operation, the hospital has treated 32,000 in-patients, and has recorded 350,000 out-patient visits.
Modern medical technology and equipment are effectively integrated in a patient-oriented environment to diagnose and treat complex medical problems. In the near future, it is anticipated that AIMS will help to raise the medical standards in India as other hospital follow suit and modernize their equipment and techniques.
