This course has been developed in consultation with the aviation industry and the business community to equip you with specialist aviation knowledge. The course focuses on the management of airport, airline and ancillary businesses and provides the tools to enable you to move into a variety of careers within aviation. This course prepares you for a wide variety of careers in organisations ranging from international companies and banks operating in Asia, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the media, international institutions and educational and research bodies. Expert staff has extensive working and research experience across Asia. Students can combine a focus on their particular area of interest, including the Middle East, Far East and South Asia, with options such as finance, law and economics. The Foundation Year is the first year of a four-year extended programme of Undergraduate studies in the Department. It offers the opportunity to enter University twelve months earlier than by the customary route. The course provides students the chance to engage, explore and experiment with a diverse range of Art, Media and Design subjects. Students build up a portfolio of skills and experience sufficient to progress to JCAMD Undergraduate degree courses that are most appropriate to their needs and aspirations.

London Metropolitan University London England Extended Degree in Architecture and Interior Design

The extended degree involves four years study in Architecture, Interior Architecture and Design or Architectural Studies. The Foundation year (known as Level 0) is an intensive one-year preparatory introduction to a broad range of design skills and techniques and outlines ways of thinking about design and the ideas that inform Architecture and Interior Design.
The year helps you develop a portfolio of work suitable for direct progression into the Certificate Level of our degree courses or your application to study related subjects.
Through a wide range of projects the Foundation year establishes the basic knowledge and skills needed for design. You will not only learn relevant technical skills, but also an exciting, imaginative approach to design and culture today.
We aim to enable you to develop your own potential, drawing out your capabilities and creativity and developing your confidence in preparation for your chosen degree route.

Assessment
The principle means of assessment will be through design projects described through drawings, models, photography and other media in your portfolio. At the foundation level there are also essays, individual and group research projects.

Career opportunities 
In addition to providing the first level of the BA (Hons) Architecture, BA (Hons) Architectural Studies and BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design extended degrees at London Metropolitan University’s department of Architecture and Spatial Design, the course also offers progression routes onto the BA (Hons) Interior Design and Technology at the University’s Sir John Cass department of Art, Media and Design.

Our students typically go on to further study of Architecture, Interior Design or related subjects, and then once they have graduated go successfully into practice. Architecture students gain RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Part I exemption on successful graduation from our BA (Hons) Architecture undergraduate course. Further study may include Masters programmes in Architecture, Design or related subjects and Architecture graduates may complete their professional studies through a further two years full-time study (to RIBA Part II exemption), and at least two years in architectural employment (with part-time classes and an examination to gain Part III).

London Metropolitan University London England BA Hons in Applied Translation

This course aims to develop professional translation skills between English and either Arabic (native speakers only), French, German (entry into third year only subject to interview), Greek (entry into third year only subject to interview), Italian, Polish (native speakers only), Russian (entry into third year only subject to interview) and Spanish.

Language students benefit from a brand new interpreting suite, with soundproof booths that are on a par with those used in Brussels for the European Commission.
Course structure

The focus is on the practice of translation and the development of professional skills. You are allocated to appropriate language classes. You can specialise in a translation-related area or learn another language.

For Single Honours you take eight modules per level. Joint Honours involves four modules from each level in Applied Translation, plus four from your other subject. After level 1 you can continue on Joint Honours or take a Major.

Some graduates progress to further study in clinical, health, counselling, forensic, educational or occupational psychology, leading to Chartered Psychologist status. Others find careers in advertising, management, business, human resources, social work and related professions.

Professional accreditation 
Single Honours: the course is designed to meet the requirements of accreditation with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and provide the Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR) with the BPS. This is essential if you wish to progress to postgraduate training and become a Chartered Psychologist. The School of Psychology will be seeking accreditation with the BPS in 2009/10.
